CLASSES
Hi Friends,
I’ve been thinking of all of you these past several months and continue to wish you and yours good health and many creative thoughts! I been thinking a personal note is long overdue.
Like many of you, I thought after a few months of quarantine and distancing we’d be nearing a full overly scheduled Fall season filled with the many things we enjoy doing. Dang Covid-19! Hopefully you’re making the best of it!
As many of you know, my humble “creative cave”, as guests have nick-named it, is a place I loved to share. Not only do I love sharing my space, I find pure joy in sharing my knowledge about kiln-forming and jewelry making with guests that visit here. I’ve always looked forward to all of the friendly interactions, excitement and enthusiasm you’ve all brought to this space. This time of the year has always been the busiest for the studio! It’s been a time for me to share my work at our holiday show, show the work of local artists, hold classes and workshops and catch up with clients, family and friends. Unfortunately, this year has had Covid complications that have prevented our normally fun schedule and if you haven’t guessed by now, yes, my brain has been trying to come up with ways to keep all of us safe and it always comes back to wait the pandemic out. Usually by this time of year guests to the studio have filled their gardens with fused glass and mosaic art, made plates, wind chimes, lanterns, bowls, have adorned themselves with jewelry of all kinds, and are a month and a half into holiday classes! Many of you get away from the hustle of stores to hand make jewelry gifts for family and friends while others are adding to their fused glass snowflake collection while creating one or two with a few pals you brought along or treat yourself, take a special guest artist class here. What a difference a year makes! It has been so quiet here without all of you! It’s difficult to believe that I haven’t had a class through here since early February! I surely miss all of you!!
Ah, the holiday show, that too hasn’t gone unscathed due to this crazy year! Begrudgingly, I decided to wait until the pandemic calms down before having an Open House/Show. I’ve thought of various ways to try to do it safely and know there are ways, but in the end, all of our safety is the utmost priority and I’d rather not risk us. The studio isn’t fully shuttered though, if you wish to commission a work or recall something that would be a great gift, contact me by phone or email and let’s see what we can arrange. Also check out Kelly Makuch Studio Facebook or website. I'll have updates coming soon and will post a few pics of gift ideas for those who want a no contact shopping experience.
Trust me, like you, I’d love nothing more than a “normal” year, but like any good artist and any other year, we work with what we have! Besides Covid-19 interrupting us here at the studio, medical challenges have slowed my physical abilities greatly. I’ve been following my doctors’ advice and isolating. Oddly, part of me is thankful that Covid-19 restrictions have basically given me permission to slow down and get this body on its way to better health. Those who know me know I’d have been pushing hard, up until all hours firing glass and prepping for classes in my Jane of all Trades style. You may know first-hand that trying to cram all of what life brings into a tidy box while operating a solely small business in the midst of feeling unwell can be challenging to navigate. I chose to embrace whatever comes, with that being said, I still have auto-immune related mobility obstacles to overcome, but again, I remain as positive as possible. It’s not all doom and gloom, no pity party here! Last week I was given the excellent news that my cancer scan looked good and my cancer markers are on still declining trend!! Until I’m told otherwise, let’s call me cancer-free! We can all agree that’s awesome news! I’m keeping positive thoughts that more healing is on the way and better mobility will result! I’ll be flapping these flabby arms and running circles around this studio and you in no time!
To continue praising the positives, this year graced us with many wonderful gifts! Our daughter got engaged in June to the nicest of men, Rory. There’s no set date, but after Allyson completes her studies, I’m sure that announcement will come swiftly. In July, our youngest son and his wife made Ted and I grandparents! To all of you grands that told me how fabulous the grandparent milestone is, yes, it is part of the best of what life offers!
Did Elbert Hubbard say, “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.”? One thing this crazy life’s experiences taught me is that there is always a bright side! Sometimes, we can plan for the lemonade, but in other cases we have to practice our skills of perseverance and patience. I know comparing a pre-Covid-19 life to its currently altered state can be tough, but it won’t last forever. I hope you’ll continue along with me and practice these skill gifts to manage all that life bestows. All good things are coming! I know this and many other things are for sure!
I know for sure I wouldn’t be able to do any of what I do without all of you supporting me and my endeavors! I wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you. Thank You! Thank you for taking classes, workshops or for coming to our annual holiday show. The support and many friends I’ve made along the way has meant a great deal to me! I also wanted to thank those of you who checked up on me to see how I’ve been through these months, thank you. None of these gestures or support to me personally and my small business goes unappreciated.
I hope to see you all before long! Stay well and I hope to see you again, very soon! But until then, have a healthy and happy holiday season! Thanks again! See you in 2021!
Fondly,
Kelly

Spinner rings, also known as meditation, worry or fidget rings, are a fun jewelry trend and easier to make than you might imagine. Working in sterling silver, brass, copper — or all three! — this workshop teaches you how to make your own and customize it with gemstones, patterned wire, or different surface textures. You’ll learn the essentials of jewelry making such as soldering, forming, piercing, and polishing while you make a ring that’s as unique as you are. Premade bezels and gemstones will be available for purchase from the instructor.
*Please advise Kelly of any dietary concerns.
*Non-refundable registration portion of: $50.00. Tax will be added at check-out. Please see Studio Policies for details.

10 am - 1 pm
Workshop Fee: $85.00+ tax materials included
*Registration Deposit: $50.00 (is applied to cost)
Ages 14 and up
You may wish to bring a snack.
Class Description:
I’ve always loved this Chainmaille weave! The Byzantine weave is an ancient unisex chain pattern that is both strong in style and elegant. While not the most basic of the Chainmaille patterns, it will be the first in the series of Chainmaille chain patterns the studio will offer.
Don’t let the richness of the weave fool you into thinking this bracelet is too complicated for you to make! With just two tools and more than a few jump rings, it won’t be long before you’ll be enjoying the meditative rhythm of this repeating pattern! Some may be able to finish the whole bracelet during class. Learn to fabricate your own clasp out of wire or choose a prefabricated one. Makes a great gift! Copper or silver tone included in materials. With notice and additional fee of $30.00, we can order silver fill jump rings. Beginners please note: Silver filled rings are slightly harder to open and close than aluminum or copper.
