Do you love to rock a scarf or shawl in the cooler months or have a friend that does? Do you want to learn new skills and make a couple gifts for the holidays while doing so and be able to make more at home with tools you may already have at home? Don’t have loads of time, but would like to hammer out some holiday season stress? This workshop is perfect for you!
Celtic pins dates back a couple thousand years, but their style remains as modern and functional as it was then! They make perfect companions to a loose weave crocheted or knitted garment. They’re a friend when you need your hands free because they hold your garment in place for you! The added bonus of the attached pin part means you won’t have to worry about losing or misplacing any part of it! Need I say more?!
Join me in my home-based studio for this small group, fast-paced metalsmithing workshop where you’ll use copper and/or brass silver wires to form, hand forge, file, texture, anneal with torch-if needed, learn how to add patina, and finish pieces! Finished pieces are roughly 2.25” in outer diameter. We will explore penannular and free form shapes.
Please note, this is a hands-on workshop using tools that require repetitive motion activities and hand strength. Those with hand, neck or back issues may wish to consult with me prior to sign up to see if the class is a good fit for you. Also, if you are of the age where you’ve heard and know what presbyopia is, you may wish to bring or invest in magnifier lens glasses. There are some inexpensive ones on Amazon that have built in head lamps. Chat me up, I’ll direct you to the kind I have. Access to the studio requires descending/climbing a full set of stairs.
Registration will close 2 days prior to the workshop. At registration, please be sure to furnish your correct email so we can send or update important information about your session. This class will need to meet minimum of three to run.
Please note: Depicted in photo is one style example you can create!

Have you been saving broken China or a favorite plate in hopes to someday make something special with it? I can help you with that! Bring your stash of broken China here and I’ll show you how to turn some into jewelry!
In this two-day workshop you will learn how to cut and prepare your China for use, how to create and solder a fine silver bezel and create a sterling silver setting, how to set your cabochon, and how finish the piece. We’ll also cover drilling, reshaping and grinding the plate part, personal safety in the studio and with tools. This will be a relaxed class with plenty of discussion, demonstration. You’ll plan your project by sketching-an important step when creating any design where resources are limited and, in my opinion, a good practice. Don’t worry if you feel you “can’t draw” as these marks are only a way to convey to yourself a plan of action. Simple or embellished, your piece will surely be one of a kind!
Additional Materials/silver sheet and wire available for purchase if you wish to venture outside of the scope of project or create an additional piece. A small plate selection will be available to cut from.
Please bring an N95 mask for sanding, cutting and grinding of your China, especially if you are unsure whether your pottery or China lead free glaze so that you can sand and cut your cabochon safely. Some of the power tools you may use are, butane torch, tile saw, drill press, grinders, flex-shafts, jeweler’s saw, files and finishing.
The studio has a limited supply of additional metals and sterling silver chain for separate purchase. You are welcome to bring a bagged lunch/snack.
When registering online be sure to add a valid email so I can send a welcome letter, waiver, parking info and weather-related cancellation updates that may arise. Snow Date will be posted in your welcome letter.
